. Generally, there is a $39.00 fee for requesting each copy of a tax return. If your main home, principal place of business, or tax records are located in a Presidentially declared disaster area, the fee will be waived if the assigned disaster designation (for example, “Hurricane Katrina”) is written in red across the top of the form when filed.

You can use Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return (Rev. November 2005), to order a transcript of your tax return. The transcript provides most of the line entries from the tax return and usually contains the information that a third party requires. You can also call 1-800-829-1040 to order a transcript.
