Georgia Policy Group Examines Proposed Tax Bills After 'Crossover Day'
SUMMARY BY TAX ANALYSTS
The Georgia Budget & Policy Institute released a report analyzing 24 tax bills that had passed through at least one of the General Assembly's chambers as of March 9 ("Crossover Day"), estimating that the bills could cost the state close to $1 billion over the next five budget years.
The group also urged the legislature to refrain from approving new special-interest tax breaks and to instead focus on Georgia's public education system, healthcare infrastructure, and economic mobility in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
