Arizona Releases Instructions for Amending 2020 Income Tax Returns

SUMMARY BY TAX ANALYSTS

The Arizona Department of Revenue has announced that new, simplified instructions are available on its website for state residents who need to amend their 2020 individual income returns to account for a provision in the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (P.L. 117-2) that excludes some unemployment compensation from federal adjusted gross income, or to take advantage of changes to the family or excise tax credits.

Simplified instructions for full-year residents amending 2020 Forms 140, 140A or 140EZ

(Line numbers refer to Form 140X).

Simplified instructions have been posted for Arizona residents who have adjustments related to the following:

1. A reduction in federal adjusted gross income related to the exclusion of unemployment compensation

2. Family tax credit

3. Excise tax credit.
