Georgia DOR Issues Guidance on Qualified Timberland Property Values

Dated June 26, 2020

SUMMARY BY TAX ANALYSTS

The Georgia Department of Revenue has released an informational bulletin providing an update on the 2020 table of values for qualified timberland property (QTP), which will be used to assess annual ad valorem tax on all QTP that has been approved by the department in 2020; because the April 6 hearing for the proposed QTP rule amendments was postponed indefinitely in light of COVID-19, the DOR will use the table of values included in the proposed amendments.

Qualified Timberland Property

June 25, 2020

The Department of Revenue is providing the following update regarding the 2020 Table of Values for Qualified Timberland Properties.

The Qualified Timberland Properties regulation comment hearing (Regulation Notice LGS 2020-002), which was scheduled to take place on April 6, 2020 was postponed until further notice due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Thus, this regulation has not yet been finalized.

However, so that the Department and the counties may administer this tax, the Department will use the Table of Values found on page 20 of the most recent version of the proposed regulations, available on the Department's website at Qualified Timberland Property Appraisal Manual (proposed).
