Maine Clarifies Homestead Property Tax Exemption Eligibility Requirements

In a second Tax Alert newsletter for July, Maine Revenue Services provided additional guidance on the extension of the April 1, 2020, application deadline for homestead property tax exemptions, as provided for under an executive order issued by the governor in response to COVID-19; the newsletter explains that the executive order did not affect the other eligibility requirements for the exemption, including the requirement that the evaluation of eligibility must still be based on a property's status as of April 1, 2020.
