Quarterly Gaming Tax Filing: COVID-19

Message from Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem to Licensed Charitable Gaming Organizations

March 26, 2020

As we navigate the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic together, the Office of Attorney General understands that with the gaming operations suspended and gaming sites closed it may be difficult to obtain the staff and resources needed to complete the filing of charitable gaming tax returns for the quarter ending March 31, 2020, which are due on April 30, 2020.

To help those organizations that are struggling with these issues, the Office of Attorney General is extending the deadline for filing the quarterly returns until June 30, 2020. In order to prevent a glut of filings at the deadline, we ask you to file as soon as you are able.

This office does not have authority under the law to forgive the tax that is due, however, any interest will be waived for gaming tax that is paid by the extension date.

Looking to the future, this office is on schedule to have the charitable gaming organization's portion of the computer system re-write completed by the end of this year, which will help ease the filing process.

We hope that you and your staff are safe and stay healthy during this difficult time.
