Deadline for tax filings and payments is two weeks from today
Due date has been moved to July 15, 2020, to allow taxpayers more time amid pandemic
JULY 1, 2020
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rhode Island Division of Taxation reminds taxpayers and tax professionals that the deadline is two weeks away for filings and payments involving Rhode Island resident and nonresident personal income tax returns, covering the 2019 tax year.
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the deadline for filings and payments was postponed from April 15 to July 15. The deadline for a number of other filings and payments has also been moved to July 15, 2020. No late charges will apply to filings and payments that are made on or before July 15, 2020.
For those who have yet to file, the Division recommends filing electronically. E-filed returns are processed more quickly than paper returns. There are fewer errors.
Also, e-filing gives you the option to have your Rhode Island personal income tax refund deposited directly into your bank account (assuming a complete and accurate return is filed). Direct deposit is not available for returns filed on paper.
Relief amid pandemic
The Rhode Island Division of Taxation reminds taxpayers that relief is available for taxpayers who are facing economic hardship amid the pandemic.
For example, taxpayers may apply for an installment agreement. Taxpayers also have the right to request that penalties be abated. For more information, please use the following link:
