SUMMARY BY TAX ANALYSTS

The Texas comptroller of public accounts released the June/July edition of Fiscal Notes, reviewing the growth of the dairy industry despite economic challenges posed by COVID-19; the sales tax exemption for sales of animals by a nonprofit animal welfare organization as established by recently enacted legislation; and June 2021 tax collections compared to those in June 2020.

June collections from sales tax, motor vehicle sales and rental taxes, motor fuel taxes, franchise tax, oil production tax, insurance taxes, natural gas production tax, alcoholic beverage taxes, hotel occupancy tax, utility taxes, and other taxes increased 18.06 percent, 49.9 percent, 26.11 percent, 1,089.44 percent, 338.75 percent, 80 percent, 688.73 percent, 111.93 percent, 136.91 percent, 192.15 percent, and 1,035.3 percent, respectively, from the same period last year, while cigarette and tobacco taxes decreased 2.79 percent.
