The Honorable Steny H. Hoyer

U.S. House of Representatives

Washington, DC 20515

Dear Mr. Hoyer:

Thank you for your joint letter with Congressman Emanuel supporting tax reform. I was interested to see the principles you believe should be followed in tax reform, as well as your concerns about several of the recommendations of the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform.

Now that the Panel has delivered its final Report to me, we have begun our evaluation of both its specific and overall recommendations. We will focus much of our evaluation on important specific issues such as the ones you raise, and on the impact of the Panel's overall packages on specific groups of taxpayers and entities. That evaluation will form the basis for my recommendations for tax reform to the President.

I very much appreciate your support of the President's efforts to reform our tax system. We look forward to working with you and other members of Congress to enact fundamental tax reform in the near future.

Sincerely,

John W. Snow

Dear Mr. Emanuel:

Thank you for your joint letter with Congressman Hoyer supporting tax reform. Your letter states a number of principles to follow in tax reform, and expresses concerns about several of the recommendations of the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform.

Now that the Panel has delivered its final Report to me, we have begun our evaluation of both its specific and overall recommendations. We will focus much of our evaluation on important specific issues such as the ones you raise, and the impact of the Panel's overall packages on specific groups of taxpayers and entities. Once that evaluation has been completed, That evaluation will form the basis for my recommendations for tax reform to the President.

I very much appreciate your support of the President's efforts to reform our tax system. We look forward to working with you and other members of Congress to enact fundamental tax reform in the near future.

Sincerely,

John W. Snow
