WASHINGTON -- Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) will convene a hearing on Thursday, March 12, to examine what steps Congress and taxpayers can take to prevent fraud this tax season. The hearing, titled "Protecting Taxpayers from Schemes and Scams During the 2015 Tax Filing Season," will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Room 215 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

"Taxpayers deserve a sound filing system that protects them from fraud and abuse," Hatch said. "Currently, millions of taxpayers are victims of identity theft, abusive phone scams, and fraudulent refund claims. This must stop. With this hearing, I hope to explore how the government can better protect taxpayers and sensitive taxpayer information, while raising awareness for how taxpayers can take precautions to protect themselves."
