"Bob has worked successfully with both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue," said Shepler's new boss, NAM Vice President for Tax Policy Dorothy Coleman. "His experience in advancing sound financial legislation to improve the outlook for American businesses will now serve NAM members well."
Shepler graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in political science before joining the staff of former Sen. Bob Smith (NH). After moving on to serve Sen. Charles Grassley (IA) in his capacity as Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, Shepler planned hearings and played an integral role in policy development.
Leaving the Hill in early 2001, Shepler signed on as director of federal affairs for Financial Executives International. He lobbied Congress, the White House and regulatory agencies on technology, employee benefits, retirement security and financial issues of concern to privately held companies.
"We're lucky to have Bob's savvy, energy and work ethic," Coleman added. "His contacts and grasp of the issues will help us push policymakers to control the costs of doing business, expand trade and better educate a 21st century workforce."
