Acting Inspector General
U.S. Department of the Treasury
1500 Pennsylvania Ave., NW
Room 4436
Washington, D.C. 20220
Dear Acting Inspector General Delmar,
I write today to request that the Department of the Treasury (“Treasury”) Office of Inspector General assist the Committee on Ways and Means in investigating Treasury's actions concerning the mandatory audit program implicated by my enclosed letters dated April 3, 2019 and September 30, 2019. I want to be assured that Treasury, including the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”), is enforcing the law in a fair and impartial manner and no one is endeavoring to intimidate or impede government officials and employees carrying out their duties.
Therefore, I respectfully ask that you conduct a real-time inquiry into the issues raised by my letters and procedures being used to respond to my requests. Please include in your findings the name and title of all persons and entities, including those outside of the IRS and Treasury, involved in the handling of my requests and all related decisions.
Sincerely,
The Honorable Richard E. Neal, Chairman
