California LAO Examines COVID-19’s Effect on Local Revenues

The California Legislative Analyst’s Office released a paper investigating how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected revenue collections of cities, counties, and independent special districts, finding that property tax collections have “remained largely stable”; sales and use tax revenue has declined overall; and “significant declines” in travel and tourism have affected transient occupancy tax collections.
