Clean Energy Orgs Call for Support of Clean Energy Tax Incentives Amendment

As a broad group of clean energy businesses and trade associations, we wish to express strong support for Senator Stabenow's amendment no. 1812 to the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (S. 1813), which extends critical clean energy tax measures and urge you to oppose Senator DeMint's amendment no. 1589 which eliminates several vital clean energy incentives.

By extending key clean energy tax incentives, Senator Stabenow's amendment would spur investment, create jobs, and diversify the country's energy portfolio to power the U.S. economy. And it would play an important role in your ongoing efforts to achieve vital economic and energy security objectives.

Specifically, the Stabenow amendment includes provisions that benefit a wide range of taxpayers and domestic businesses, and are important to U.S. jobs and the broader economy. Moreover, they have driven technological innovation, enhanced the viability and deployment of a variety of clean energy options, and reduced costs for consumers and industry.

Continued backing for clean energy incentives is in the best interest of American taxpayers and supports a well-reasoned national energy strategy that improves our economic conditions at home and strengthens U.S. competitiveness in the global marketplace. Failure to extend these provisions would inject more instability and uncertainty into the economy and further weaken confidence and put more U.S. jobs at risk.

For these reasons, we urge you and your colleagues to maintain the chamber's commitment to clean energy tax incentives by voting in favor of the Stabenow amendment and to oppose the DeMint amendment. In the coming weeks, we look forward to constructively working with you on this matter and other tax and spending proposals.
