Dear Hank:
[1] Thank you for your letter discussing potential economic proposals to demonstrate the Administration's commitment to protecting the economic recovery. You suggest the Administration might consider accelerating the rate cuts included in the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act (EGTRRA) or an exemption of corporate dividends.
[2] As you know, I believe the economy is fundamentally strong. After the past year's downturn, we have experienced three quarters of positive growth with low inflation.
[3] I do believe, however, the ideas you mention are worthy suggestions even in an economic recovery. The Administration is presently considering these and similar ideas raised at the President's Economic Forum.
