Incoming Dems Support Hoyer as Majority Leader

Congratulations on your election victory! Like you, we are very proud to be coming to Washington to serve as part of our historic Democratic Freshman class of the 110th Congress.

Having gone through this exciting and tough campaign season just like you, we know how difficult it was to achieve victory. And now that we have won our races, we must turn our attention to governing. In addition to setting up our Washington and District offices, hiring staff and taking care of all of the personal details in making the transition from candidate to Member of Congress, among the first -- and most important -- decisions each of us will have to make is whom to support for our Democratic Majority Leader.

We are supporting Steny Hoyer -- and we urge you to support Steny, too.

Steny has worked tirelessly to help us get here, just as he has worked over the past 12 years to bring the Democrats back into the majority. He helped to raise the money we needed and traveled to our Districts. All told, he raised or gave -- through his leadership PAC (AMERIPAC) and Hoyer for Congress -- more than $8 million to Democratic Members, candidates and the DCCC in this cycle. Steny also campaigned or recruited in 80 Congressional Districts in this cycle, and traveled to 33 states to stump or fund-raise for Democratic incumbents and candidates. And, this cycle alone, Steny participated in more than 315 events on the road.

Steny's candidate assistance, however, is not the only reason we support his candidacy for Majority Leader. We also support him because of his unwavering commitment to Democratic principles, and his track record as a bridge builder who works with all Democrats. Clear evidence of that is the fact that he and our leadership team helped House Democrats become the most united they have been in 50 years.

For all these reasons, we hope you, too, will support Steny as our new Majority Leader.
