House Republicans Launch Two-Week
Social Security Blitz
Will Hold 545 District-Based Events to Continue
Discussions with Constituents
WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressional Republicans are in the midst of a two-week campaign to continue the debate on the future of Social Security. Through district-based events, Members will talk with their constituents about the challenges facing the program, and the possible remedies being considered in Washington.
"House Republicans are mobilized and ready to continue the conversation President Bush began in his State of the Union Address. Our caucus will use the next two weeks to educate and engage on Social Security," said House Republican Conference Chairman Deborah Pryce (R-OH). "I am encouraged by the number of Members committed to candid discussions with their constituents on Social Security, and know that we will all come back to Washington a little wiser."
Chairman Pryce announced today that preliminary estimates show Republicans will hold 545 district-based events on Social Security over the next two weeks. In town halls, panel discussions, and pancake breakfasts, Members will talk with their friends and neighbors about one of the greatest challenges facing the nation, and will receive recommendations from private and public sector experts.
"The fact-based, vision-driven Social Security discussion led by House Republicans is a marked contrast to the tactics offered by the opponents of change," continued Pryce. "By conversing with the American people and providing them with the most up-to-date and accurate information, our Members will be better armed to make the tough decisions that will protect the retirements of our children and grandchildren."
